Look At Me In PE

I originally used this theme to help the children who struggled during physical education class. Now I use the Look At Me In PE theme with the entire school.

Over the course of the school year I dedicate one wall in the gymnasium to the theme Look At Me In PE.

Throughout the year I take pictures of the students participating and performing in physical education. I attempt to capture them accomplishing a difficult challenge or demonstrating cooperative group work. I photograph new and unusual stunts and tricks and photograph children who participate in PE Club, Jump Rope Club, The Walking Club and Recess Club.

Once a week I print out the pictures in the computer lab (black and white) and add them to the Look At Me In PE display.

The students love to look at and discuss the photos. During warm up as they walk around the gym I give them time to look at the display.

This theme has inspired children to appreciate the talents of others, be creative, encourage others to keep trying and has increased the pride they feel in themselves as they accomplish what seemed like the impossible.

I am now adding a family wall or display. Our district is promoting NASPE standard #3 and #4. To help with this promotion I am displaying pictures of families engaged in physical activity or fitness activities.

Our district is also creating a PE Counts program based on standars 3 and 4. Through photographs and displays the Look At Me In PEM theme will continue to encourage activity, health and pride in the students.
