Back to School Night with Technology!

This idea is for my Back to School Night to inform parents about our PE program. Rather than make tons of copies of the Physical Education handout that was distributed at our Back to School event for parent and kids, I thought using technology would be a convenient way for parents to get the information. Using this method allows the parents to still have access to the information when they would otherwise lose the handout.

I created a QR code connected to my PE handout for parents so that parents could use their phone or iPad to quickly access the information. It also saves paper and the possibility of paper loss.

I created my handout, saved it as a PDF and uploaded it into Google Drive. I then created a QR code to link parents to the handout and then they could email it to themselves or print it at home. (The capabilities of use of the document may sometimes depend on the QR Code Reader app that is downloaded.) Once in Google Drive, you create a QR Code by going to Goo.gl and copying the URL in the space provided. It will shorten the URL and when you click on "Details," the QR Code is provided. Copy and paste where needed.

I created signs that I posted in a couple of key locations and a mini handout of the sign with instructions in English and Spanish and distributed the handouts to parents. This was very new concept so those I was able to speak with and give my handout were surprised by thanked me. I had a dual role at the table and was also recruiting parents for other events.

Below are the sign and mini handouts I created along with my handout that you are linked to with the QR Code.
